Hello 3rd graders & families!

Please use the following information to support you for Remote Learning:

  • Remote Learning Boards: Due Dates and New Assignment Postings 

    In order to accommodate parent work schedules and the need for extra time to complete weekly assignments, we have set the following schedule for our Remote Learning weeks.  Going forward, all assignments will now be due on Fridays at 9:00 am and the NEW week will also post at 9:00 am on Fridays.  So, the remote learning week will now be Friday to Friday, giving families 2 extra days over the weekend to work on assignments.  This isn’t to say that we expect students to be working on the weekends now.  They will still have a 5 day school week:  Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and then all work is due 9:00 am on Friday.  This new schedule allows more flexibility and time when students can work on assignments.

     To access weekly learning expectations, students will need to log in to Google Classroom, now called G Suite Classroom.   To do this, please scroll to the bottom of this webpage and click "student login".  You will then enter the student's username and password.

  • Attendance  While it is encouraged that students complete all assignments, it is now an expectation that in order to be considered “present” for attendance, 75% of assignments need to be completed and submitted by Friday at 9:00 am.  Late work will not be graded nor counted toward attendance and will be marked as “missing”.  Please use the Remote Learning Boards, assignment checklist, and Google Classroom to double-check that all assignments have been completed and turned in by this time.

  • Grading  Per district guidelines, remote learning assignments will now be graded in Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Math, in the same manner, we were grading before remote learning began and grades received during remote learning will be reflected on the end of year report cards.  Students will receive the following scores, based on their effort and proficiency on each assignment.

    These scores will also be assigned for time spent completing assigned programs such as Waterford Reading and Math.  If a student does not meet the weekly goal for Waterford, he/she will score a 2 or 1 (depending on the deficit) for Waterford minutes each week.

  • Quality of Assignments

    When in the classroom, we hold students to a grade-level standard that their work is to be completed meeting 3rd-grade expectations.  We are still holding students to these same standards; questions are to be answered in complete sentences, with correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.  We are looking for students to read and follow all directions carefully and use the RACE format and proper paragraph organization as well.  We have posted materials in Google Classroom that we used in the classroom for RACE and paragraph organization, so students can use these as a reference.  We used these same anchor charts in the classroom, so they are familiar with these charts.  We kindly request that student work is completed by the students, with support from parents when necessary.  In some cases, there will be rubrics that you and your child can use to evaluate their work before submitting so that they can get the best score possible.
