English Language Development is a program to develop and support English proficiency. The ELD curriculum of Adams 12 has been developed by the ELL department to compliment and support grade level units of study. The ELD units of study are based upon Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP) standards and uses World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) measures for achievement. One major benefit of the ELD program is small group instruction in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Students who qualify for ELD services, travel to the ELD classroom with their grade level peers. Students receive 45 minutes of instruction - four days a week and 30 minutes on early release days. ELD teachers collaborate with grade level teaching teams to establish rigorous language and academic development in a supportive setting. The literacy focus includes vocabulary development, reading comprehension strategies, listening comprehension strategies, reading fluency, writing techniques, and various functions and forms of English. ELD program lessons support language and academic content from the general education classroom.
