Hello, my name is Gunnar Johnson and I am the Physical Education teacher at Stellar Elementary School. I am married to Tara Johnson and have two boys who attend Rocky Top Middle School and Legacy High School. When I am not at school, I enjoy being with my family and coaching youth and high school sports. I have coached my boys in soccer, flag and tackle football, basketball, and baseball. I have also been the head basketball coach at Holy Family High School and Legacy High School. I currently coach football at Legacy High School.
I graduated from Metropolitan State University in 1998 with a major in history, and minor in political science, and my elementary teaching endorsement. I have also earned my masters degree through the University of Phoenix in Supervision and Administration. In 2010 I went back to school to become endorsed in physical education because one of my passions is for kids to be physically fit and active.
I taught 5th grade at Cotton Creek Elementary for 18 years and taught p.e. for two years at Coyote Ridge Elementary before moving to Stellar Elementary. I was also a student achievement coach for two years. While teaching at Cotton Creek and Coyote Ridge I ran a school newspaper, was head of student council and ran intramural programs.
Finally, it is my belief that all students can and should be successful. It is my everyday mission to make sure that they are. I also challenge kids to live a healthy and active life style. When we as educators can help a student achieve something they didn't think they could, we are succeeding and breeding true confidence in our learners.
